| Inpatient Program
Psychiatric assessment and treatment for patients age 60 and over is the specialty of the Older Adult Mental Health Unit at Deaconess Hospital, the first program in the city to provide treatment in an environment tailored and limited to older adults. Referrals to this inpatient program can be made by the patient, patient's family, friends, caregivers, physicians, healthcare workers, community mental health agencies, or long term care facilities. A clinical social worker or psychiatric nurse is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for mental health assessment or admission, by calling our simple one number access at: 513.559.2703.
Our attractive residential setting provides short-term treatment, the guidance of a multidisciplinary team with the sensory stimulation room; anemial-assisted therapy and music therapy are some of the approaches used in this unique setting.
Planning for discharge, be it a return to a home environment or an alternate living arrangement, begins on the day of admission. Licensed clinical social workers with the input and assistance of family members, care givers and the treatment team, help to make the transition to community living a safe and seamless experience. And we follow up with a phone call to make sure our patients are acclimating well to home.
